(UNI) Panthers Party chief Prof Bhim Singh has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking directions from the Bar Council of India (BCI) to hold elections for the Jammu and Kashmir State Bar Council.
According to the petitioner, the Advocates Act, 1961 has been made applicable to Jammu and Kashmir since 1986 and it is mandatory to hold elections for J&K bar council so that lawyers of the state are not discriminated against and are treated at par with other advocates in the country. UNI
