The Entertainment Law Society (ELS), an initiative of the Karnataka State Law University, takes great delight in announcing the first edition of the International Symposium on Law and Business of Entertainment. The event is scheduled to be held on 06th & 07th December 2012 at the Karnataka State Law University, Hubli.

The ELS is established with a novel vision to contribute considerably to the law and policy making by evolving an all-inclusive policy in the domain of Entertainment Law. The Society also aims at providing a gigantic platform to the aspirants of the Entertainment Law by facilitating requisite aid and guidance.

In consonance with these objectives along with the others, the Society is anchoring an International Symposium, which would bring together the professional Entertainment Law Experts from across the globe, the major stakeholders of the Indian Entertainment Industry and the Entertainment Law academicians worldwide.

The symposium is open for undergraduates, post graduates, research scholars and professionals and is restricted to 150 delegates. To register for participation, kindly send the duly filled registration form available at the ELS website, along with the DD drawn in the name of The Finance Officer, KSLU, payable at Hubli, on or before 25th November 2012 to The Director, Entertainment Law Society, Karnataka State Law University, Navanagar, Hubli. The Symposium is also providing a podium paper presentation for students and professionals. The authors are required to send their abstracts, not exceeding 350 words, to editor [at] entlaw [dot] org on or before 15th November 2012. The manuscript shall be pertaining to the following themes:

  1. Unprotectable Vs. Protectable Concepts
  2. Ownership and Royalty Sharing
  3. Copyright Infringement and Fair use
  4. Licensing, Statutory Licenses and Copyright Societies
  5. Movie and Music Licensing – Challenges and Issues
  6. The changing landscape of television and Radio Licensing
  7. Merchandising and Celebrity Rights
  8. New technology development and Entrepreneurship in the Entertainment Industry

The intimation of the selected abstracts shall be made on or before 18th November 2012. Upon selection, the authors shall send their complete manuscript to aforementioned email address latest by 30th November 2012.The Editorial Board of Entertainment Law Society shall scrutinize and select the best abstracts, which shall be presented in the symposium by the respective author(s) and the selected papers shall be qualified for publication in the Journal, to be released by the Entertainment Law Society.

Guidelines:

  1. The focus of the submissions shall be restricted to Themes (specified in the attachment pertaining to Symposium ) incorporated in the symposium on ‘Law and Business of Entertainment.’
  2. The abstract shall not exceed 350 words and shall be sent on or before 15th November, 2012 to editor [at] entlaw [dot] org. Authors of the selected abstracts shall be intimated on 18thNovember, 2012.
  3. The selected authors shall send their complete papers, which shall not exceed 5000 words, to aforementioned email address in electronic format latest by 30th November, 2012
  4. The manuscript of the submission shall be in MS Word format, with the page size A4, font style Times New Roman and font size 12. The line spacing shall be 1.5.
  5. The mode of citation shall be as prescribed by the Blue Book System of Citation (19 Ed.).th
  6. The submissions shall include a cover page mentioning the title of the submission, name of the author, Year of study or designation, name of the institution, contact details of the author.
  7. A maximum of 2 authors can co-author a single manuscript.

The organizers shall possess the copyrights pertaining to the submissions made.
