The Advocates Act, 1961 was enacted on 19th May, 1961 in order to amend and consolidate the law relating to legal practitioners and to provide for the constitution of autonomous Bar Councils one for whole India and one for each State.
Consequently, the Orissa State Bar Council as a Statutory Body came into existence in the year 1961. It has 26 Members including the Advocate General as the Ex-Officio Member.
